I recall fondly growing up in Bartlesville. We had a fine school system with some excellent teachers. I remember several teachers with special affectiion and admiration: Mr. Gardner (9th grade General Science), Dr. Newman, Miss Fender, Miss Ingham and Mr. Brooks. These fine teachers influenced my decision to become an educator with a fascination towards math and science.

After graduating from College High, I went to Phillips University in Enid with the intention of becoming a high school math or science teacher. I completed a B.A. degree in Mathematics at Phillips and briefly taught high school Geometry and Trigonometry in Corpus Christi, TX. My wife, Elaine of Kansas City, KS, and I met at Phillips University in 1963; we just celebrated our 45th anniversary. Following our wedding I began graduate school at Kansas State intending to return to teaching high school mathematics. While in my first year of graduate school, I fortunately received a fellowship to continue my education. At K-State I earned a M.S. and a Ph.D. in Math.

In 1970 I began my full-time career as a College Math Professor at Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln. A year later we moved to Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville and in 1985 moved on to Texas A&M University-Texarkana. Including some part-time teaching while in graduate school, my teaching career spanned 42 years. Our son, Eric, was born in 1970 and lives with his wife, Lori, in Dallas. Eric is a consultant. Our daughter, Amy, born in 1973 lives with her family, husband, James, and children, Meleah and Caden in North Richland Hills, TX. We moved from Texarkana to Keller in 2009 to be near them. Elaine and I have spent 20 enjoyable years sponsoring church youth groups. We have also made family gatherings a priority. While we have been able to travel more than we ever thought, we anticipate several more years of enjoyable trips and times together.
