I married Joe Robertson (Class of '58) and we will be celebrating our 50 year anniversary in 2011. We have 2 sons, John (48) and Mark (44). John is an attorney in Tulsa, married Sharie and has 2 children, Jeff (21) and Nikki (18), both students at OU. Mark is an ENT surgeon in Bartlesville, married Michele and has 2 boys, Nate (13) and Zach (10). I went back to work full- time when Mark attended OSU. I had 32 hours of college credit from KU and it took me 4 years to get the remaining 3 years required for a degree in Behavioral Science. We are still living in Bartlesville. I retired from the Department of Human Services after 37 years. Working as a social worker for the last 20 years has been very rewarding. I still get to see some of my former clients when I volunteer or go to Walmart. That is especially nice because I can keep up with them without feeling currently responsible.
It is really special to have additional "grandma duties" now that I am retired. The two in Bartlesville have assured me they will need me "at least until they drive". Luckily even the two in Norman still need us once in a while and they include the old folks in their lives. And, as everyone who is a parent knows, you are a parent until the day you die. How wonderful!!!!
It is too bad that we had no clue years ago that the only things important in life are God, family, health and love. But, I guess that each generation has to figure that out for themselves. I still have to stop and think every so often about how old we really are. It does not seem possible. However, when you remember the ages of your children and how old your spouse is, you have to be getting up there. I would love to see everyone, but it will not possible this year.
