Jeffery Marx
I studied architecture at the University of Illinois in Urbana, where I had lived before moving to Bartlesville. It was a 5-year course with an emphasis on structural engineering. ..In addition to classwork, I was active in the civil rights movement, and was editor of the architecture department newspaper. ..When I graduated in 1965, I moved to Chicago, where I have lived since. I became a licensed architect in 1968.

I worked for others for 20 years, but have had independent commissions since 1970, and have been self-employed since 1986.. Most of my work has been residential, commercial, and industrial. About the time that high interest rates stalled construction in the early 1980's, the incident at Three Mile Island led to extensive modifications at the 5 nuclear power plants near Chicago, so I found work with a nuclear engineering firm, as chief architect at their midwest office.

When the nuclear work wound down, and no new plants were being built, I returned to residential and commercial projects. .Along with new buildings, I have been involved in rehabilitation of existing buildings, including landmark preservation, something I learned as co-owner of a house built in 1894. .I have completed several hundred projects, and still do a few each year.

My leisure activities include photography and music, computer-generated these days. Work on the house never ends. For vacations, I enjoy the mountains.
