Leroy Heaton, 64, of Albany died Thursday at Samaritan Albany General Hospital. He was born in Oakley, Kan., the son of Harvey Edward and Violet Mae (Kite) Heaton. He graduated
from high school in Bartlesville, Okla. He attended Oklahoma State and Colorado State, receiving his master’s degree in fishery biology. Leroy married Jan Creveling on March 12, 1965, in Ponca City, Okla. They moved to Washington in 1967 to the Tri-Cities area. They moved to the Albany area in 1968 and had lived here since.
He taught at Linn-Benton Community College for about 24 years, retiring in the early 1990s. Leroy was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Albany Tennis Club and Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. He played Santa Claus at schools and Storybook Land.
Leroy is survived by wife Jan Heaton of Albany; children and their spouses Jon and Amy Heaton and Carrie and Terry Marstall of Albany; grandchildren Kaylee, Courtney, Torrie, Hillary and Alyssa; and brother Larry Heaton of Freeburg, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Miriam King.
