Following graduation from Col-Hi, I attended OU receiving a B.S. in Environmental Science and Public Health in ’65. I was immediately employed by the Oklahoma City-County Health Department spearheading development of the county’s new air pollution control program. In ’67 I accepted an appointment as Lieutenant (Junior Grade) in the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS). My initial duty station was Washington, D.C. with the National Air Pollution Control Administration assisting state and local government in establishing their own programs.
In ’69 I was transferred to the USPHS Regional Offiice in Atlanta. This transfer allowed me to decentralize programs closer to the state and local governments to more efficiently provide technical support. In 1971, I graduated from the University of Florida receiving a Masters of Engineering in Air Pollution Control then returned to Atlanta.
Also in 1971 I married Alabama native, Sue Brown, who was employed by Southern Bell Telephone Co. in Atlanta. Our 2 children are Travis and Nicole.
Travis graduated from the Georgia Institutte of Technology and then the Georgia State University Law School. He currently works for the criminal justice system in Douglas County, GA. Nicole is presently working towards an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Development and Education.

My next USPHS duty station was in North Carolina in ’78 assigned to USEPA’s Office of Air Quality Planning and Standards coordinating development of national policies, regional programs and resource allocations. My final duty station was a return to the Regional Office in Atlanta in ’88 working to improve regional programs and to coordinate with 9 other offices on specific national programs and policy implementation. In ’98 I retired with the rank of Captain and returned to Oklahoma City. The stay was brief due to the “major weather” event on May 3, ’99 and we returned to Senoia, GA which is a suburb of the Atlanta Metropolitan area where we presently reside.
