Elise Davis Tiedt
Upon graduation from Kansas University in 1964, with a degree in Modern European History, I lived and worked in Boston, MA for a year. The following summer, my sister, Susan, and I went to Europe. After touring continental Europe in a Volkswagon Beetle, I decided to stay and attend the University of Grenoble for the school year. Classes in French were challenging and much to my parents chagrin, I discovered that I could learn much more French on the ski slopes and in the cafes. It was one of the most exhilarating years of my life. Susan returned the following summer and we continued our travels in Spain and Scandinavia. In the fall of 1966, after returning from Europe, I attended the University of Denver and got a Masters in Library Science. During that year, I rekindled a past friendship with Bill Tiedt, who was attending law school in Boulder, CO and we were married in December of 1967. 42 years later, we are still happily married.
After living in Colorado Springs for 3 years, we decided that we wanted to live in the mountains. In 1970 we moved to Woodland Park, elevation 8,500 ft., and continue to reside there. We are blessed with 4 daughters and 6 grandchildren. My career as a librarian covered work in college, public and elementary school libraries. Bill and I both retired in 1997 and have found fulfillment in travel and volunteer projects. I have served on the library board of our district library for 5 years, held offices in my PEO chapter, and have belonged to the same book club for 35 years. I continue to hike, mountain bike and work out at the
gym. Regrettably, I had to give up skiing a few years ago after back surgery. My newest hobby is Genealogy which I find very addicting. As I reflect on the past 50 years, there is nothing that I would change. I have always valued the friendships and memories I have from growing up in Bartlesville, but lately, I seem to treasure them even more.
